I have decided to allow the market to set the price on this “Ultra-Rare” 1901 Victor Type “B” phonograph. I am selling it to the highest bidder with “no reserve”. The Victor Model B phonograph, produced for one year only, 1901, by the Victor Talking Machine Company, Camden, New Jersey. This model is commonly referred to as the "fleur-de-lys" version of the Trademark Machine that was used in the famous "His Master's Voice" painting by Francis Barraud. The Victor B (or "Type B") was Eldridge Johnson's first "bread and butter" talking machine. The Type B was actually produced several years before the Victor Talking Machine was founded. Emile Berliner, the inventor of the flat phonograph disc, designed and marketed this model as early as 1896. Johnson had been contracted by Berliner to manufacture some components for the phonographs. Berliner eventually sold the business to Johnson, who named his new enterprise "The Victor Talking Machine Company" and continued to produce many models of Berliner's product line. The Type B is called the Trademark Phonograph because it was the model used in the famous Victor logo with Nipper staring down the horn. Early versions of this machine pre-date the introduction of the Nipper logo. The Type B sold new for $18.00, and was discontinued in 1902. A stamped steel horn was standard along with a single spring motor and "Standard" Soundbox. The crank was placed in a vertical position and a 7 inch turntable was used. Exact production numbers are unknown. These early Victors are highly prized by collectors today. [Information courtesy of the Victor-Victrola Page] According to this site this phonograph is rated: ****Highest Rarity & ****Highest Value! This Victor Model B, serial #B 13355, is probably about the nicest I have ever seen! Please take time to view the 30 pictures, to see what wonderful shape this machine is in! The cabinet is in excellent shape, with it’s original “Fleur-de-lys” & “Egg & Dart” trim all still intact. The finish appears to be mostly original and intact, and has been carefully cleaned and waxed. The bottom of the cabinet still retains its original feet. All metal hardware appears to be original, has been cleaned with MAAS metal polish and shows wear consistent with the age of the machine. I would say that about 50% of the original nickel remains. The original “Concert” reproducer, serial #31229, which would have been an upgrade from the “Standard” soundbox, has been rebuilt and will provide another 100yrs of enjoyment. The original “PAT. APL’D FOR” brass belled horn, also an upgrade from the standard black “Japanned” horn, shows expected wear and dents consistent with age. The bell has a wonderful “patina” which could be left “as is” or polished to a bright shine. Only the leather elbow, rubber horn support tubing, and turntable felt, are excellent modern replacements. The machine runs and plays very well, with a nice consistent speed, but with the typical motor noise common on such early machines. The spring is just strong enough to make it through a 7” record. I will include the record in the video, and an original but worn 7” Victor Record to display on the turntable. Overall, just about one of the nicest original Victor B’s around! A great machine that would be the centerpiece of just about any collection! These highly collectible early Victors are few and far between, and rarely come up for auction in such nice condition, usually only being sold or traded between serious collectors. Winning bidder pays actual USPS Priority Mail Insured shipping costs. (I’m guessing around $100.00 in the states). Please check my feedback, I pack very well. I am selling Worldwide, but only to Countries that use USPS Priority International Insured Shipping, and only to International Bidders with at least 100+ rating. Please wait until I send your invoice to pay, as it will be packed in two boxes. Thank You and Good Luck, Zwebie.
