RAGTIME RASTUS Black Racist Doll DANCING PHONOGRAPH TOY Picture(s) and Description:
Known as a "DANCING COON"/ RAGTIME DANCING RASTUS - the toy that sat on top of a phonograph and danced as the disc rotated. This toy was made by the National Toy Company of Boston, Mass. It comes in its original box, which has a patent date of 1915.How does he work? Underneath the base is a little disc that fits over the spindle in the center of the record. As the? record spins, so does the little disc, which has a simple mechanism that also moves the doll up and down, causing him to "dance." To see one of these little guys in action, go to YOUTUBE, and search for "ragtime rastus". They are quite fun to watch! Funny what used to entertain people before computers! The doll is made of wood. It's in really good condition, even the box is in pretty good shape considering it's nearly 100 years old! This has been packed away for years. Out of a family estate. In my research, I have seen these go at auctions for nearly $500!! Highly collectible! Please contact me with any questions. No returns.
